The 2008 Wrangler Division
National Finals was held June 30th – July 5th in Gallup, New
Mexico. Twenty two (22) members of the Oregon Wrangler Division
traveled to Gallup, representing Oregon in eleven events. Qualifiers
include Zalin Arritola from Klamath Falls, Wyatt Bloom from Bend,
McKennan Buckner from Powell Butte, Colton Campbell from Klamath Falls,
Lainey Corbett from Prineville, Emily Garcia from Glide, Nadia Hill from
Klamath Falls, Valerie James from Sandy, Jessie Loper from Powell Butte,
Elane Mace from Burns, Austin Madsen from Sandy, Ireland Miller from
Albany, Nic Nyman from Crane, Ryan Opie from Crane, Tyler Opie from
Crane, Natalie Scotto from Hermiston, Emily Sorey from Pendleton, Pake
Sorey from Pendleton, Dayton Stafford from Prineville, Austin Thompson
from Yoncalla, Jordan Tye from Canby, and Sabrina Wickson from
Hillsboro.
Wyatt Bloom of Bend, brought
home the Boys Breakaway National Championship Title. Bloom roped his
first calf in 3.61 to place 20th in the first round. Wyatt
turned in a time of 3.05 for 7th in the second round, taking
him into the final round where he posted a time of 3.47 for 3rd
in the final round and a new National Championship. Also placing in the
Boys Breakaway was Colton Campbell who ended in 8th place
with a time of 13.565 on 3.
The Oregon Team placed 16th
overall, the boy’s team placed 9th and the girl’s team placed
15th. McKennan Buckner ended the season 14th in
the Boys Goat Tying with a total time of 36.309 on 3. Jessie Loper
ended 15th in the Girls Goat Tying Standings with a time of
37.956 on 3. Sabrina Wickson of Hillsboro had a great finals placing 13th
in the Girls Breakaway with a time of 7.659 on 2. Wickson and partner
Ryan Opie ended up 5th in the Ribbon Roping with a time of
40.12 on 3. Sabrina placed 10th in the all-around standings.
